Tribute
By Jeanne Mirabito
Rest Peacefully, Dear old friend
never more you'll have to roam
past the gates of Calumet
You are finally home.
Many a year has graced us
since you ran by Sweet Tooth's side.
The journey took you many miles,
you won hearts far and wide.
You thundered boldly down the stretch
to the cheering of the crowd.
The world would rise to notice
Our Mims running proud.
Among the racing royalty
a champion was crowned
The Queen took her rightful throne
The Great Our Mims renowned.
When quietly the kingdom fell
the road ahead looked bleak
Refused to be forgotten
Our Mims was never meek.
Hampered by the fate of humans
a life under their command.
an elder Mims went searching
for a tender loving hand.
Through the age and hardship
A champion's soul remained
to take us all to yesteryear
and touch our hearts again.
Safe for such a precious time.
Our world a better place.
No other loved more dearly.
A full return to grace.
Age imprisoned earthly ties
too much a load to bear.
Forcing us to say good bye
through many falling tears.
Though we sleep with broken hearts
At dawn we hope to see
horizons streaked with coming light
And Our Mims running free.
